LEED for Schools: LEED - S
The LEED for Schools Rating System recognizes the unique nature of the design and construction of K-12 schools. Based on the LEED for New Construction rating system, it addresses issues such as classroom acoustics, master planning, mold prevention and environmental site assessment.
By addressing the uniqueness of school spaces and children's health issues, LEED for Schools provides a unique, comprehensive tool for schools that wish to build green, with measurable results. LEED for Schools is the recognized third-party standard for high-performance schools that are healthier for students, comfortable for teachers, and cost-effective. (http://www.usgbc.org/)
Roca Tile products contribute to the following LEED S credit categories:
Materials and Recourses*Post-consumer recycled material is defined as waste material generated by households or by commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities in their role as end-users of the product, which can no longer be used for its intended purpose.
**Pre-consumer material is defined as materials diverted from the waste stream during the manufacturing process.
The intent of MR Credit 4.1 and 4.2 is to increase demand for building products that contain recycled content. This reduces environmental and social impacts resulting from extraction and processing of raw materials.
Roca Tile products recycled content is defined in accordance with the International Organization of Standards document, ISO 14021 - Environmental Labels and Declarations - Self-declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labeling). Meeting this LEED NC recycled content reference standard ensures that Roca Tile will contribute to LEED credits on any LEED NC project. Proper documentation for LEED letter template submittals is available upon request.
All Roca Tile products also meet CA 01350 indoor air quality standards and are rated zero VOC. It is important to specify low and zero VOC products to improve indoor air quality and the health of building occupants.
Indoor Environmental QualityThe intent of EQ Credit 4 is to reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating, and/or harmful to the comfort and well-being of installers and occupants. Ensuring that products installed in schools are zero or low VOC improves the health, and therefore the learning abilities of school attendees.
To meet EQ Credit 4 requirements all flooring elements installed in the building interior must meet the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Health and Services Standard Practice for the Testing of Volatile Organic Emissions From Various Sources Using Small - Scale Environmental Chambers. All Roca Tiles meet this reference standard, and contribute to LEED credits in the Low-Emitting Materials Option 3 Flooring Systems category of the LEED S rating system. Proper documentation for LEED letter template submittals is available upon request.
